The Foxhunter

It’s hard to decide whether the Foxhunter quite qualifies as a gastropub, although it was one once. When Matt and Lisa Tebbutt transformed this Victorian pub into a modern British restaurant they didn’t do away with all the tradition, so let’s give them the benefit of the doubt, even if the emphasis is very much on the ‘gastro’ rather than the ‘pub’ these days. Think of the smart and pricey end of the brasserie spectrum and you’ve got the right idea. This makes the Foxhunter more of a birthday and anniversary destination than a come-one-come-all watering hole. The seasonal ingredients are held together with deft, light touches, while flavours are big and rustic, and there’s quite a serious wine list.
