Square Meal Review of Restaurant Michael Deane ?

Restaurant Michael Deane comprises a street-level brasserie & an indulgent first-floor dining room, which was awarded a Michelin star in 1997. Eight years on and standards haven’t dropped one bit – the cooking still an imaginative fusion of British & Irish cuisine. Risotto of scallops, chorizo & chilli oil may precede peppered venison with creamed artichoke or cumin roast duck while the brasserie below runs along much simpler lines with fish & chips or roast chicken forestiere featuring on a menu strong on comfort food.

I went to what i believed to be the best resaurant in belfast with my husband only to be appauled by the level of poor quality service and bland and unexciting menu. apon arrival we were greated by a charming french fellow who seated us and took our drinks order, after which the evening took a turn. it then took 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive after which a further 15minutes before any sign of a menu (and i failed to mention we were 1 of only 5 tables in the venue). after ordering from a very small and boring menu the starters came out 25 minutes later, only to be sent back as the scallops were undercooked. They did get it better second time around. For our main course we ordered a bottle of wine(st bury pinot noir) from who i can only assume was a manageress although it was hard to tell as all the staff were just standing at the bottom of the restaurant chatting. The girl obviously did not know her wine and brought me the house shiraz. The problem was fixed (with no appologie) and then our main course came (some 45mins after our starters had left). Once they arrived we only had to ask for some main course cuttley before we could begin our meal. The main courses had mixed reviews, my husband enjoyed the duck however my risotto was under cooked but i had had enough of the evening and at this point was really hungry so ate it anyway. Which then brought us to the best part of the whole experience. Leaving!

“Best Restaurant in Belfast” I DONT THINK SO!
