Square Meal review of Room:
Hyper cool restaurant: serious kitchen, even though a menu boasting prawn cocktail, steak and chips, bangers and mash, and rice pudding might indicate otherwise. "Simple yet funky retro food" involves some witty reworkings of old cliches. So for prawn cocktail expect tempura king prawns with a tower of diced avocado under a crisp roof of parsnip. Magnificent rice pudding is served with a tiny jug of strawberry coulis to stir in, a la school dinner. Service is friendly, the atmosphere is bright and clattery and a DJ plays anything from hip-hop to Elvis from a pulpit overlooking the vast dining room.
