It was an inspired idea: take over a striking, yet neglected, listed Victorian railway shed & turn it into the first full-time farmer’s market in the country. Team that with an in-house restaurant whose chef buys all his ingredients from the butchers, bakers & farmers selling in the market, make sure the food is neither frilly nor fancy, &, hey-presto, you have a sure-fire winner. The Goods Shed is a casual space of exposed brickwork & massive windows soaring up to exposed rafters. For lunch & dinner, expect ingredient-led dishes such as cauliflower & rosemary soup, organic pot-roast chicken or lemon sole with wild garlic butter, with orange & almond torte, orange syrup & lavender ice cream for afters.
