Square Meal Review of The Goods Shed ?

It was an inspired idea: take over a striking, yet neglected, listed Victorian railway shed & turn it into the first full-time farmer’s market in the country. Team that with an in-house restaurant whose chef buys all his ingredients from the butchers, bakers & farmers selling in the market, make sure the food is neither frilly nor fancy, &, hey-presto, you have a sure-fire winner. The Goods Shed is a casual space of exposed brickwork & massive windows soaring up to exposed rafters. For lunch & dinner, expect ingredient-led dishes such as cauliflower & rosemary soup, organic pot-roast chicken or lemon sole with wild garlic butter, with orange & almond torte, orange syrup & lavender ice cream for afters.

My best treat when visiting the UK from Sorrento Italy where I live is to come to the Goods Shed it is for me JUST how a lovely lunch should be..the food is amazing and the girls that they employ to serve at table are charming…living where I do one becomes a terrible snob about food…we have some really good places to eat where I come from like L'Antica Trattoria in Sorrento…just have a look at their web site…so I am not a one to throw praise around too easily…so roll on the next visit to Canterbury and a revel in the delicious unpretentious food offered by the Goods Shed.Happy Christmas to all.
