The Victoria at Holkham

we were really looking forward to this special meal out, to celebrate our anniversary. we had heard the food here was fab, so booked a table. We were hoping for a quiet table, but were seated near to a family with noisy children, the menu was very limited, although we did not mind that so much. The staff were ok, although we did not get our water that we asked for with main course, the staff were polite but really did not seem that bothered by the customers. The starters were lovely, my main course was very nice, but my husband ordered halibut, at first it tasted fine, and then my husband said he could eat no more, it was far too salty, i tried it, it was awful. we do not like to complain but had to, the waitress took the plate, apologised in a uniformed way but did not seem to care. The excuse was the fish had been seasoned twice! we were ignored, and so paid the bill, the fish dish was knocked off the bill. But we will never return, it was not a nice welcoming place and the way we were just forgotten after complaining was not good. The whole place is in need of new decor, its dated, and the wooden floor makes it extrememly noisy during a quiet meal, what would it be like on a fully booked night?
