No 5 is an easy-going bistro, with the archetypal wooden floors & tables, candlelight & generous greenery, a perfect backdrop for chef-proprietor Michel Lemoine's updated French classics. Early years with the Roux Brothers, then time spent in the kitchens of Bibendum (with Simon Hopkinson) & Alastair Little, come through in the seasonally changing menus that could see boudin blanc with crispy bacon, bean puree & red wine reduction, & roast marinated venison with sweet pepper, red onion, orange, olive compote & red wine sauce alongside goat's cheese & pesto crostini with candy tomatoes, & fillet of salmon with roast fennel, tomato concasse & chive butter sauce. Creative desserts include passion fruit bavarois with rum soaked charlotte & fruit coulis & chocolate fondue. There's also a great value two-course set menu for £8.95.
