Square Meal Review of Brasserie Forty 4 ?

Brasserie Forty 4 was in the vanguard of new-wave brasseries to hit Leeds and remains one of the best, fashionably situated on the banks of the river Aire in a former grain warehouse. The look is bright, light and modern in both the dining and bar areas. One menu fits all, and the kitchen sets the ball rolling with the likes of ham hock and baby spinach risotto or seared scallops with sweetcorn and potato chowder, ahead of lamb rump with pearl barley, broad beans and tomatoes or roast chicken breast with wild mushrooms and tarragon; there’s a board of daily fish specials, too. To finish, try orange, lemon and cinnamon crème brûlée or Brasserie Forty 4’s ‘famous’ chocolate fondue served with marshmallows. At lunchtime there’s also a special Yorkshire beef menu for fans of steak.
