Square Meal review of Brasserie Forty 4:

One of the first of the new wave of Leeds brasseries & still one of the best. Happily situated on the banks of the river Aire in a former grain warehouse, the look is bright, light & modern in both the dining & bar areas. & with the closure of the adjacent Pool Court at 42 The Calls, the dining area has expanded, with the Pool Court dining room being absorbed into the brasserie. Suits predominate at lunchtime, while young professionals flock in the evenings for dishes such as crispy mackerel fillet served oriental style with pak choy, bean sprouts & noodles, or wild boar sausages with onion compote & creamy mustard sauce, both dishes stars of the early-bird dinner priced at £19.95 for three courses (plus a half bottle of wine). Superb value, especially when you consider that it’s all just a five-minute stroll from the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
