Ideal spot for lounge lizards, The Living Room feels rather hidden away up on the first floor of this new development on Broad Street, & its colonial look – all whirring ceiling fans & wooden blinds – is easy-going & informal. There’s live music from the baby grand piano & vocals Monday to Saturday & Sunday afternoon jazz makes a soothing way to polish off the weekend. Brunches are also popular. Weekends see the place full of locals from 8pm onwards, & it’s rammed at the bar, but weekday evenings have a nice buzzy atmosphere with a mix of suits (from the nearby hotels & convention centre) & the casually dressed, which seems to work well. The food is high on comfort value, with lots of salads, burgers, & bangers & mash as well as more serious stuff such as roasted rack of lamb or steaks; staff are well trained.
