Square Meal review of Deason’s:
Jason and Jodie are the Deasons in question, with Jason handling the kitchen whilst Jodie oversees front of house in a relaxed but assured fashion. Set in a converted Bristol townhouse, their restaurant serves ambitious, French-inspired cooking in bright, contemporary surrounds. Main courses might include seared wild venison loin with oxtail and thyme dumplings, sauteed liver, roasted beetroot, parsnip puree and a Creme de Mure sauce, or sauteed fillets of seabass with Thai angle hair noodles cakes, steamed pak choi and black bean sauce. There is a welcome emphasis on quality ingredients and no shortage of technical skill, but one sometimes feels that the kitchen has gone an ingredient or flavour too far. A neat wine list is of a sensible length and offers real value from decent producers.
