Square Meal Review of Mirabelle ?

Splendid views of the Eastbourne seafront enhance the elegant, light feel of the Mirabelle – an ever-popular rendezvous housed within the town’s most-famous hotel. This South Coast grande dame harks back to a bygone era of the BBC Palm Court Orchestra, but the skilful kitchen is in tunes with the times. You might begin in style with a truffle-infused Jerusalem artichoke velouté or choucroute of venison & wild boar sausages, before sampling a duo of monkfish & black sea bream with saffron fumet, red pepper & fennel; to close, consider mille-feuille of chocolate mousses with marinated prunes, & wash it all down with a bottle or two from the extensive & globetrotting wine list. Staff are knowledgeable, polished & courteous.

The sister restaurant of the much-missed Mayfair Mirabelle, this venue lacks the savoir-faire of its sibling; however, if out-of-town pomp is what you are after, and fashion is something you left behind in your 20s, this is a welcoming retreat.
Situated within the Grand Hotel at Eastbourne, the best tables have views of the sea. Service is old-school deferential, the wine list is extensive, impressive and offered in imposing leather-bound volumes, should you wish to impress your date. The menu is classically-executed French, with nary a suggestion of modernity in sight, and cossetting service a-plenty.
Lacks a Mirabelle bar to extend the experience, and the clientele are securely unLondon. Overall, a comforting, unchallenging treat.
