Square Meal review of Le Gallois:
Still widely regarded as Cardiff's finest, this pioneering family-owned restaurant introduced MPW-inspired metropolitan cooking to the Welsh capital. Modern European cooking is served here in light, chic surroundings by cheery and enthusiastic staff. Expect good use of top quality raw materials in dishes like terrine of foie gras and truffle with Madeira jelly and toasted brioche, followed perhaps by seared red mullet with fricassee of squid, saffron potatoes, tapenade crouton and bouillabaisse sauce or pot roasted pig, truffle mash, baby vegetables, crispy Alsace bacon and honey and clove sauce. Wash it down with a choice from the fairly priced wine list which offers an international spectrum and even the odd Welsh bin.
