Set deep in the landscaped heart of Jesmond Dene & noted for serving posh seafood ingredients such as Lindisfarne oysters & Dover sole, Fisherman’s Lodge belongs to Newcastle’s premier league of dining – with prices to match. Avoid the need for a second mortgage by opting for the good-value set lunch (£22.50 for three courses, coffee & petits fours) as dishes from the a la carte & bottles from the wine list quickly add up. Such a lunch could bring seared red mullet with cauliflower risotto to start, then pan-fried coley with mustard crumb, new potatoes & wilted baby gem, with chocolate tart & caramel ice-cream to finish.
