Square Meal Review of The House on the Bridge ?

Set in flower-filled, landscaped gardens by the Windsor Bridge, this restaurant enjoys one of England’s most beautiful views – best enjoyed in summer from one of the riverside alfresco tables. A traditional carte with a twist includes dishes like chicken Wellington with bacon, stilton and sherry sauce, and fried red mullet with citrus and basil butter sauce and with that you have a wide ranging wine list to chose from. To finish, there are crepes with orange, Grand Marnier and caramel sauce.

For fans of Fawlty Towers only – please keep reading, anyone else don't bother. The House on the Bridge provides the full experience with grumpy waiters, which bark at the customers and fail to comprehend the simplest request, dated decor and a menu that has not been updated since Maggie Thatcher entered No. 10. When people think of England as a culinary waste land, this is why!! The avocado came with mixed seafood that had the texture of defrosted tin food, the escargot swam in water rather than garlic sauce, the potato and leek soup was bland and the meet was hard to chew. Only the prices have not missed the sign of the times and have been updated to top class London level with hardly a main course under £20 and starters averaging around £10-15. With a drop of wine you easily spend £50-60 per person. Absolutely a no go zone.
