In May 2007, after nigh on 20 years at 21 Queen Street, Cafe 21 moved a short distance down the Quay to bigger premises in the Trinity Gardens development. But rest assured, nothing else has changed. It’s a chic, modern brasserie of polished wood, leather banquettes & white-clad tables, where modern versions of classics such as thin tomato tart with pistou & garden herbs & gratin of kippers with Ratte potatoes & lemon cream, pave the way for tried & trusted favourites such as grilled fillet steak au poivre or fishcakes with buttered spinach, parsley cream & chips. The restaurant is noted for its desserts, so be tempted by the likes of custard tart with nutmeg ice-cream or hot apple fritters with apricot sauce & vanilla ice-cream. The atmosphere, like the food, is calm, professional & sophisticated, & the express lunch (2/3 courses for £14/£16.50) is a particular favourite of business diners.
