This old town favourite features traditional French cooking in elegant, Edwardian surrounds. Twice-baked cheese souffle, or scallops and smoked bacon lardon with leaves dressed with lime and coriander, may be followed by roast loin of venison and game jus flavoured with pear liqueur, with apple and Calvados ice cream layered with apple crisps and served in a sesame basket for afters. The dining room, overseen by a friendly family-run team, has an informal, relaxed feel despite its plush decor. Booking advisable.
