Tried and tested classics, including deep-fried camembert and steak and chips, make out the core of an otherwise international menu in this accessible hotel dining room, where 16th century heritage meets the charm of private ownership. Smart enough for business and with candlelight for those evening dates, the traditional decor won’t blow your socks off, but its warm, comfortable ambience, enhanced by friendly, knowledgeable service, makes for a pleasurable experience. A lighter bar menu, with salads, grills and fishcakes, is handy for lunchtime.
