Brazz Taunton

This, the Castle Hotel’s downstairs brasserie, has fast become a Taunton favourite, packed with shoppers, mums, and lunching ladies by day, followed by a vibrant evening crowd drawn by the modish decor that comes complete with fish tanks and a star-spangled ceiling dome. Simply set tables are spaced widely enough for business – though the buzz, aided by an open-plan kitchen, would always keep those conspiratorial chats secret anyway. Service can be hit and miss, while a simple menu delivers classics like Caesar salad, salmon fishcakes and local ribeye with chips and bearnaise. The 40-strong wine list is excellent value, with plenty by the glass and half bottle. A branch of Brazz can be found in Cardiff.
