Made head chef here by Terry Laybourne in 2001, Ian Lowry was given the opportunity to buy the business from Laybourne in 2005, & has not looked back since. The style remains pretty much the same with a modern brasserie menu rolling out the likes of bang-bang chicken, chilli-salt squid, & grilled black pudding with crispy onions & mustard sauce. Mains of sirloin steak, confit duck with mustard mash, & fishcake with buttered spinach, parsley cream & chips are as good as food gets - honest, earthy & satisfying, while trad desserts take in creme brulee, treacle tart, & good old sticky toffee pudding
