Now in its third decade of being owned & run by the McCoy brothers, this quirky, eccentric even, one-off and rather rambling (basement) bistro with rooms and a gloriously madly designed Saturday-only restaurant, serves hearty eclectic fare in large portions. On offer might be a hefty starter of black pudding, apple puree, sauce gribiche, pancetta & onion marmalade, followed by halibut with pan-fried gnocchi with wild mushrooms, or beef Wellington with brandy poivre sauce. Trad desserts & cheeses. All-day candlelight imparts a romantic hue. Prices may not be low, but it’s all good value.
