Book early for a table in the dining room of this jewel of a country hotel near Cardiff Wales Airport. Beautiful antiques are scattered throughout the building, but the dining room, which was once a billiard room, is elegantly refined and uncluttered with Cuban mahogany panelling on the walls. Nigel Roberts’ menu changes monthly and has a strong focus on local ingredients. Expect the likes of baked rack of welsh lamb, roasted baby poussin, or melange of monkfish and king prawns. Welsh and continental cheeses are served with bara brith, fruit chutney and oatmeal biscuits. Staff know their business.
