Square Meal review of The Thai House:
One of the first Thai restaurants to open in Britain & still going strong almost a quarter of a century later, Thai House’s success is built on consistently high standards & bolstered, no doubt, by an excellent location between the railway & the city centre. The decor is all warm, understated modernity, while the staff offer smooth, attentive service that never intrudes. The emphasis here is on traditional Thai food, made with quality ingredients from Thailand & Wales. A meal might start with an explosion of fiery freshness in the form of meang kam (do-it-yourself parcels of cha pu leaves filled with chilli, nuts, ginger, dried shrimp & a sticky sauce) or chicken wings stuffed with mince & served with sweet chilli. Mains are a harmonious assortment of meat & fish dishes, from slices of trout fillet in a red curry sauce to tender Welsh beef in a rich oyster sauce. The banana fritters are a tasty & traditional option to finish, while the well-balanced wine list includes some enjoyable Thai wines.
