Square Meal review of Summer Isles:

The ultimate romantic hide-away, with breathtaking views over the eponymous isles & a location so remote it can only be reached by a single-lane track. The best views in the house are from the west-facing dining room, where magical sunsets almost steal the show from the chef. Lucky, then, that Chris Firth-Bernard knows how to draw attention too. Obviously strong on local seafood, but always with an excellent meat course, his five-course sets may include warm scallop mousse, breast of wood pigeon with brioche & duxelles of mushrooms & grilled fillet of halibut with local mussels steamed in saffron & white wine. The legendary sweet trolley, which might offer classics like raspberry pavlova & chocolate torte, but save room for the fine selection of cheeses, many of them Scottish. A global list is strong on fine wines, with good choices available by the glass. Note: only open to the public from the week before Easter until mid-October.
