Bath Priory Hotel & Restaurant
Only a mile from the city centre, the Bath Priory has the cosseting atmosphere & velvety lawns normally associated with country house hotels. It’s the epitome of English comfort, with heavy drapes, well-stuffed sofas & gilt-framed hunting pictures. Michael Caines of Gidleigh Park & ABode Hotels fame has taken over the hotel & his menu – interpreted by head chef Sam Moody – offers the likes of fillet of Brixham gurnard (served with parsnip purée & chicken jus rôti) ahead of slow cooked rump of lamb (teamed with fennel purée, crushed potatoes & tapenade jus), & blackcurrant soufflé with blackcurrant sorbet. The fabulously well-researched wine list deserves lengthy scrutiny.
