This is a pleasant-looking rural pub noted for 'brilliant' food, 'welcoming' staff, a 'wide-ranging' wine list & a Michelin star. There's a relaxed feel, but the smart clientele matches the aspirations of the food & wine. Lincolnshire sausages, English mustard mash & spring greens, & sticky banoffee pudding with banana & whisky ice-cream may nod towards pub classics, but haricot bean & white truffle broth, roast wild sea bass with stuffed pepper, tagliatelle & red pepper coulis, & chocolate roulade with black cherries & white chocolate ice-cream have a more urban appeal. The three-course Sunday set keeps it traditional with roast rib of beef & Yorkshire pud. For those travelling on the A1, this makes a posh pit stop & the pub also offers 'high standard' accommodation close by.
