Tucked away but worth seeking out on the London side of Cambridge, this 18-century free house has long been a favourite with out-of-town diners & now has eight en suite bedrooms. Trevor and Sally Oliver (proud parents of Jamie) offer an adventurous, predominantly Italian menu that changes frequently. Book a table in the restaurant for a set 2 or 3-course dinner (£23.50-£29.50), or book a table in the bar (lunch or dinner) for the same menu, but priced individually for more flexibility. Bruschetta of fresh crabmeat, chilli, rocket and lemon with a dill mayonnaise ahead of rump of Welsh lamb, cooked pink, sliced and dressed with a fresh caper and mint jus or fillets of fresh mackerel grilled and served on to a warm salad of courgettes and spring onions, finished with an olive tapenade, are typical of the style.
