Square Meal Review of The Phoenix ?

It's a trifle bizarre sitting in the window of a Chinese restaurant and admiring the view of a picturesque village green and pond, complete with village pump. Once run as a drinkery/eaterie by two brothers who won the pools, it retains a dash of its original atmosphere while serving up some of the region's best Peking and Szechuan cuisine. Friendly and attentive service and a real favourite for business dining.

    We have been here before and the food was usually good, if expensive. We booked a table for 3 people at 7.30pm. When we arrived we were shown to a table near the front door, in a very busy and draughty position. There were approximately 6 empty tables in this section, so we asked if we could have one of those instead. The waitress said no, because the restaurant was fully booked. We pointed out the empty tables, but the waitress said they were booked. We then spoke to a supervisor and the manager, who both refused to let us have a different table. So we left, and we won't be going back. We went to Yim Wah at Caxton, where the food and the service is always excellent, not to mention friendly and welcoming
