It may be out of the way, but when you walk through the door of the Horn of Plenty you feel you’ve come home. With its well-worn floorboards, huge windows, comfortable furnishings, lampshades shedding a luminous glow, & a restaurant that makes the most of stunning views of the Tamar valley, the house draws an appreciative crowd of regulars – from all over the country. The kitchen champions local produce for its Mediterranean-accented cooking, & counts game & seafood as particular strengths. Fish is spectacularly fresh: expect a dreamy pairing of steamed red mullet on a sautéed crab cake with ginger & spring onions, or scallops & king prawns served with apple & coriander trofiette pasta. Meat is handled with considerable aplomb, too: spiced duck breast with a cherry compote & port sauce, say. France dominates the wine list, but there's also an interesting selection of New World bottles.
