‘Jonathan’ is Jonathan Lewis, who arrived with wife Josephine in 2000 from the highly rated Wesley House in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, and quickly stamped his mark on this rustically decorated restaurant, with its flagstone floors and sturdy wooden furnishings, just around the corner from the bustling High Street. Generous portions and modest prices are the hallmark of the menu, which features fish (fillets of john dory on a potato cake), game (breast of pheasant on warm nicoise potatoes) and classic cuts of meat (pan-fried sirloin steak with girolle mushrooms).
