Square Meal review of Waldo's at Cliveden:

Considering this is set in one of England’s grandest country house hotels (the former home of the Astors), Waldo’s is surprisingly intimate. Elegant table settings, polished service & a jacket-&-tie dress code certainly create a sense of occasion, but the overall feel of the restaurant is comfortable, cosy & charmingly lived in. The talented Robert Thompson has been at the stoves since November 2007 – he’s one of the youngest chefs to ever win a Michelin star (awarded when he was cooking at Winteringham Fields). His modern menu is built on a classic French base & uses impeccable ingredients. Dishes include cannelloni of pike & langoustines served with a sweet corn sauce, basil & paprika, & potato crusted turbot with mouclade & a fennel choucroute or hare royal accompanied by a sauce grand Veneur ‘Germain Schwab’. For the best end to a meal at Waldo’s, you can take your coffee in front of the fire in the Great Hall &, if you want to do the digestif trolley justice, it may be best to book a room upstairs.
