Square Meal review of The French Restaurant:
Although this self-consciously grand hotel dining room is a pretty routine example of its kind, cooking here has often outperformed the rather staid surroundings. As one might expect, there is a classic streak running right through the menu but the execution and composition of dishes demonstrate that there is a healthy dollop of wit and intelligence at work too. Steamed sea bass with parmesan and rocket mash and cappuccino of caviar is fairly typical of the style.
