Made famous by chef John Tovey (who remains as a consultant to the hotel), this elegant stalwart of the Cumbrian dining-out scene offers food that balances a slick mingling of textures & flavours served against a stunning view over Windermere to the Langdale Pikes. The six-course dinner menu could include slow-cooked pork belly with butter-braised salsify, shallot puree & candied apple, & roasted Gressingham duck breast with celeriac salad, confit leg meat & orange & cinnamon reduction. Lunch, a three-course set for £21.50, offers a wide choice but always includes something traditional such as deep-fried cod, pont neuf potatoes, pea puree & tartare sauce (a posh take on fish & chips) & there’s usually sticky toffee pudding for afters.
