It's well worth navigating your way through Nottingham's fiendish one-way system to reach this tucked-away, cul-de-sac location. While you'll still find lone businessmen from next-door Hart's Hotel tapping away on their laptops, the soft banquettes, booths & gentle lighting mean it's an equally attractive proposition for young couples. Game terrine with Cumberland jelly, raisin purée & toasted brioche or monkfish wrapped in bacon with lemon & parsley risotto & red wine sauce show off the kitchen's skills to good effect, likewise impeccably roasted venison served with sweet potato gratin, rosemary-tinged carrot purée & chocolate sauce. Service comes courtesy of an immaculately drilled front-of-house team – no surprise, given that owner Tim Hart also runs magnificent Hambleton Hall in Rutland.
