Square Meal Review of Hart's Restaurant ?

It's well worth navigating your way through Nottingham's fiendish one-way system to reach this tucked-away, cul-de-sac location. While you'll still find lone businessmen from next-door Hart's Hotel tapping away on their laptops, the soft banquettes, booths & gentle lighting mean it's an equally attractive proposition for young couples. Game terrine with Cumberland jelly, raisin purée & toasted brioche or monkfish wrapped in bacon with lemon & parsley risotto & red wine sauce show off the kitchen's skills to good effect, likewise impeccably roasted venison served with sweet potato gratin, rosemary-tinged carrot purée & chocolate sauce. Service comes courtesy of an immaculately drilled front-of-house team – no surprise, given that owner Tim Hart also runs magnificent Hambleton Hall in Rutland.

I dined at this restaurant yesterday, having visited Hambleton Hall on several occasions and with the same owner I had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed the food was excellent. I started with the Harts Salad, simple but delicious perfect for the warm weather. For main I opted for the Monk Fish, the fish was cooked to perfection but it didn't need the chicken nugget in my opinion as the potatoes and salsa were beautiful. Sadly no time for desert but I shall return. Service was relaxed and in the most part attentive. Good value for money and in a good location on minutes from the City Centre and adjacent to the Castle.
