Square Meal review of The Castle Hotel:
The high standards at the restaurant of this ancient, creeper-clad county town hotel have yet to slip. The ingredients are sourced as locally as possible & the menu offers bold combinations such as scrambled duck egg with Brown & Forest smoked eel drizzled with lightly curried oil ahead of roast turbot with spring vegetable & cauliflower puree, or a loin of fallow buck with prune puree & spring greens. The extensive wine list has some real stature in Bordeaux reds & Burgundy, but the rest of the world maintains high standards, with South Africa & Italy showing particular strength.
