Square Meal review of Simply Heathcotes Manchester:

The former registry office makes an effective setting for the Manchester branch of this northern mini-chain. Noted for sharp, modern brasserie cooking, there may be some orientation towards France and the Med (salt cod brandade, confit shoulder of lamb with black olive hash, or fettucine of Portobello mushrooms with polenta croutons) but ingredients showcase northern produce – Pendle lamb and Lancashire cheese, say - and ideas like roast breast of Goosnargh duck teamed with braised red cabbage. Beer battered Whitby cod with handcut chips and mushy peas (there’s also a beer battered black pudding alternative) and deep-fried fishcakes with poached egg, spinach and hollandaise are typical comfort food, while roasted salmon fillet with marinated cucumber salad is a lighter alternative.
