The bucolic setting with gardens running down to the River Thames inspired Jerome K Jerome to write ‘Three Men in a Boat’ when he lived here. The beautifully relaxed & beamed Boathouse Restaurant focuses on a wide-ranging menu of modern brasserie dishes with char-grilling to the fore – squid & bacon with chilli jam for example, or rump steak with creamy mushroom sauce. Elsewhere, there’s Mediterranean fish soup with all the trimmings, curried whitebait with coriander mayonnaise, & for mains, mint marinated lamb cutlets or Parma ham-wrapped pork fillet with morel cream sauce. Great ambience & summer alfresco too, with a terrace just a few feet from the river.
