Occupying two floors of a Grade I-listed merchant’s residence on Newcastle’s humming Quayside, House of Tides is the bold new restaurant from big-name North Country chef and Great British Menu contender Kenny Atkinson. Drinks are served in the flagstoned bar downstairs, while the dining room occupies the upper level. Expect 'beautiful' Brit-accented food to match the historic wood-beamed surroundings – from mackerel with gooseberries, lemon and mustard or monkfish cheek with Whitby crab risotto to beef carpaccio with carrots, bone marrow and horseradish. Craster fish pie and roast chicken are also given an on-trend workout, while desserts might feature rice pudding gussied up with cherries, red wine and pistachios. From Tuesday to Thursday, you can pick three courses for a reduced price of £45; on Friday and Saturday, dinner revolves around an intricate, all-inclusive tasting menu. 'Boy it’s good', exclaimed a fan.
