This independently owned café on Queen Square Avenue has become a hit with local office workers and tourists since it opened in summer 2012. Breakfast and lunch are the main deals, with a big blackboard on one wall advertising sandwiches, savoury tarts, frittatas and salads, plus tempting piles of cookies, flapjacks, pastries and fruit for those needing something sweet with their caffeine fix. Many of the ingredients are sourced from Bristol-based producers and suppliers, so expect a range of sourdoughs, flatbreads and focaccias with lively toppings – try Milano salami with Berkswell cheese, rocket and chilli jam. There’s also a more extensive brunch menu at weekends. The overall look is uncluttered, with cute touches such as low-hung industrial-chic lights, sugar spooned from Tate & Lyle treacle cans, and coffee served in glasses rather than cups.
