It’s only a stone’s throw from Harrogate’s touristy hot spots, but the Blues Café & Bar couldn’t be any further away in terms of style. Although the place doubles as a café by day, the real attraction is the regular line-up of live bands that plug in come nightfall. It’s cramped, and there isn’t much in the way of decor (wood floors, flashes of neon and a few monochrome photos), but everyone is here for the music. Though it’s ‘blues’ by name, the venue showcases everything from acoustic rock to funk and folk, and they bring in acts from abroad as well as showcasing local talent. Beers, lagers and other libations are par for the course, and there’s also an expanded range of food on offer – from talked-about breakfasts to home-cooked lunches throughout the week. They have a great coffee machine too.
