Though it’s only a stone’s throw from Harrogate’s famous Betty’s Tea Rooms, Blues Café & Bar couldn’t be any further away in terms of its mission statement. Although the place doubles as a café by day, the real attraction is the regular line-up of live bands come nightfall. It’s cramped, and there isn’t much in the way of decor (some flashes of neon and a few monochrome photos lining the wall), but no one is here for the aesthetics – it’s the atmosphere and music that count. Though it’s ‘blues’ by name, the venue showcases everything from acoustic rock to funk and folk, and they bring in acts from Europe and the States as well as showcasing local talent. Beers, lagers and other libations are par for the course, and the Blue Nile restaurant upstairs serves Egyptian cuisine most evenings.
