Square Meal Review of The Tannin Level Bar & Bistro ?

It’s a family affair at The Tannin Level, with Barbara, Ian and Alex Gill all lending a hand out front and supporting the kitchen brigade. Dark wood, exposed brick and the odd splash of rich rouge paint lend the interior a stylish yet welcoming ambience – a mood that extends to the staff, who are well-versed in the menu and friendly to boot. The repertoire is underpinned by British flavours (smoked haddock kedgeree fishcakes, rhubarb meringue pie), but eclectic options such as the Madras-spiced salmon (with Bombay potatoes, curried lentils, and mint and cucumber raita) or char-grilled jerk chicken (with cumin and lime-roasted butternut squash) give it a playful twist. Tuesday night is steak night, Wednesday is reserved for seafood, and The Tannin Level is also immensely popular for Sunday lunch.
