An Italian fixture of the Byres Road social and gastronomic scene for many years, Paperino’s is famed for its sociable vibes and affordable trattoria food – served in stylish metropolitan surroundings. Daytime ‘presto’ menus are great value at just £5.99, but the full carte also keeps its prices in check – whether you fancy a pizza, a bowl of pasta or the full three courses. Typical picks from the menu might include spicy grilled chicken wings, pumpkin risotto with crushed Amaretti biscuits, chicken milanese and seared sea bass with white wine and lemon juice, plus sugary deep-fried pizza sticks with butterscotch or focaccia spread with Nutella for afters. The Fantinel Prosecco Bar at the front of the restaurant is a destination in its own right, and Paperino’s recently launched its own brand of craft lager. Otherwise, Italian wines rule the roost.
