Founded by the brains behind the Gaucho chain, CAU offers a more egalitarian version of the high-end steakhouse concept – top-notch Argentinian beef and more besides at mid-market prices. As well as a full range of wet-aged lomito fillets, rib-eyes, sirloins and tapa de cuadril (cut from the haunch), the user-friendly international menu also offers salads, burgers, handmade ravioli, fishcakes and desserts such as dulce de leche pancakes. Like the food, the drinks list is tailored to a family audience with smoothies and mini-shakes alongside cocktails, world beers, South American wines and jugs of regional clericots (a fruity wine-based beverage). CAU’s design is as esoteric as Gaucho’s – in this case involving grassy-green pampas imagery on the ceiling and splashes of sky blue, plus a white-on-black resin floor and corrugated white walls adding an urban edge.
