Square Meal Review of Yen Oriental ?

Situated on the first floor of the iconic B-listed North Rotunda building originally constructed in Victorian times to service the now disused Glasgow harbour tunnel, this oriental restaurant is dramatically kitted out with richly coloured contemporary art and specially commissioned wax paintings of Japanese scenes arrayed around huge central pillars. One level is taken up with the gastro-theatrical drama of teppanyaki cooking on sizzling hotplates, while the main dining room offers a pan-Asian tour stopping off in Japan, Thailand and China’s regional provinces. Expect a lengthy run through sushi, tom yum soups, yakitori skewers, tempura, aromatic crispy duck, satays, curries and stir-fries backed by various rice and noodle dishes. Pre-theatre deals suit those heading for shows and gigs at the nearby Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC) and Hydro Arena.
