Square Meal Review of Barolo Grill ?

Out of the same Italian stable as Amarone and Café Andaluz, this upmarket trattoria just a minute’s walk from Glasgow Central station puts on a swanky, sophisticated face with its warm colours, high-backed leather booths edged with frosted glass, open-plan seating and old-time photos on the walls. As the restaurant’s name suggests, a showpiece grill is at the heart of the culinary action, but the extensive menu covers everything from arancini balls, vitello tonnato and other antipasti to ‘hand-stretched’ pizzas and assorted pasta – perhaps rigatoni with crumbled Italian sausage or penne with wild mushrooms, ricotta and saffron. Specials might include roast rump of lamb with celeriac mash and garlicky spinach, while desserts are classics such tiramisu. Scottish steak nights are a regular feature on Wednesdays, and there’s plenty of beefy Barolo on the Italian-led wine list.
