Established for some years now, Edinburgh’s Bay of Bengal is situated slap bang in the middle of the action. With such a prime location, the dining room quickly fills up on big dining out nights, so booking is of course essential. Primarily concerned with North Indian and Bangladeshi food, the kitchen offers a menu fairly typical of Indian restaurants, curries aplenty, decent tandoori dishes, plus a number of unique or rare chef’s specialties for the visitor seeking to stray from his ‘usual’. A number of veggie options come under the ‘green’ banner and, unusually the Bay of Bengal also offers a handful of Thai dishes too. The red painted exterior of Bay of Bengal, where pavement dining is available during festival season, gives way to a typically styled dining room with classic upholstered furnishings and a sprinkling of decadence throughout. Service is friendly and efficient without being rushed while prices are realistic for the central location, close to Edinburgh’s theatres.
