Square Meal Review of The Jetty ?

It may be tucked away in the grounds of the Christchurch Harbour Hotel, but The Jetty operates as a stand-alone restaurant – slap-bang on the water’s edge overlooking Mudeford Quay. Sleek, cool and fashionable, with acres of glass and a big decked terrace to deliver those knock-out watery views, it has already made its name as a local hot spot. At the helm is one-time Michelin-starred chef Alex Aitken (well-known in these parts), who shows his pedigree with a raft of clean-cut, flavour-driven dishes based on seasonal produce and daily deliveries of fish from the quayside. Expect anything from spanking-fresh sea bream fillet with shellfish marinière and crushed new potatoes to calf’s liver accompanied by a leek and potato cake, sautéed onions, watercress and red wine sauce. For dessert, don’t miss Aitken’s signature passion fruit soufflé with passion fruit sauce.

  1. A couple of years ago I ate one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in an establishment that afforded a wonderful view of sunset over Loch Lomond. Situated in a similarly idyllic spot - especially so on a warm, still August evening - right on the edge of Christchurch Harbour in east Dorset, the Jetty could be forgiven for not trying that hard. But in a restaurant just across the water from a busy fishing port with a head chef, Alex Aitken, who is a former Michelin star holder (and ex-trawlerman), standards are higher...
