Square Meal Review of The Old Bookshop ?

Occupying a former bookshop in the heart of Bristol’s regenerated Southville district, this quirky café-cum-music venue has retained something of its ramshackle bibliophile atmosphere. It’s crammed with all kinds of charity-shop collectables: retro ghetto blasters, typewriters, old cameras, bunting and lampshades; look up at the bar and you’ll see an impressive light fitting made from brass instruments (a nod to the music on offer). During the week, the place is filled with mums and tots enjoying cakes and coffee on mismatched crockery, while evenings bring intimate folksy gigs accompanied by tapas along the lines of pork meatballs with smoky tomato sauce, Brixham sprats with gremolata oil or lentil, spinach and pepper stew. Weekends get pretty busy, so get there early for music events.
