Square Meal Review of Quayside ?

The family owners of this spruce, upbeat seafood café have been in the fish & chip business since the 1950s, & still take great pride in their work. Since 1999, they have been trading out of this ancient building on Whitby Quayside (Bram Stoker carried out some research for his novel Dracula here), though the dining room looks rather dapper these days. There’s no messing about when it comes to the menu: you might kick off with breaded Whitby whole-tail scampi with tartare sauce, before tackling battered haddock, cod or plaice (freshly cooked the old way in beef dripping) alongside some of the best chips in Yorkshire. Not everything here is deep-fried, of course, with plenty of orders for fishcakes or creamy fish pie stuffed with cod, salmon & prawns. Staff are delightful.
