My mother booked a table at Smiths for a meal to celebrate my Fathers 60th Birthday. When she booked it, the very helpful waitress assured her that even though there were 3 vegetarians in the party, as long as you rang in advance, the chef could prepare anything requested, or augment a starter into a main course.

Five days in advance, I rang to disscuss options for the vegetarian meals, only to be faced with a rude, ignorant and obtuse woman. She informed me that there was no scope for preordering a vegetarian meal, and that either a starter could be adapted, or we could have a stirfry with oyster sauce “you know like you get with a Chinese”. Upon suggesting that this was not what was on offer, and that a stir fry was not really representative of what the restaurant had on offer, I was met with a ‘take it or leave it attitude’.

My mother, who was very upset by this response, rang to speak to her. She was rude, would not let my mother speak and eventually hung up on her. Upon ringing back immedietly my mother was told that the woman had cancelled our table…

Why would anyone want someone like that to represent their business is beyond me.
