Although better known for Muirfield (its championship golf course), Gullane also sports a splendid German ‘konditorei’ run by a master patissier from Baden-Württemberg. The neat interior functions as a cake shop & café, providing a handy stop-off for a cuppa or two with filled rolls, soup or breakfasts in various European styles – although the main draw is the seductive selection of sweet goodies to eat in or take away. Take your pick from simple yoghurt scones or raisin & hazelnut rolls, luxurious chocolate banana cream cake, classic sachertorte or käsekuchen, as well as arguably the best Black Forest gâteau in Scotland.
