A tiny restaurant with a big reputation among Cardiff foodies, Bully’s majors in French-inspired cooking based on seasonal Welsh produce, backed by a carefully sourced French wine list. A long-running family affair manned by friendly staff, it benefits from quirky, rustic surrounds (every inch of the walls is covered in pictures) & a head chef who previously worked for Raymond Blanc. Pop in for the keenly priced ‘express lunch’ (maybe a pork rillette with rocket, Chinese baby apple, hazelnut & balsamic dressing followed by roast topside of beef), or linger in the evening over pan-fried foie gras with sesame-crusted toffee apple & blueberry vinaigrette, ahead of braised lamb shank with roasted root vegetables & red wine sauce. Desserts offer a playful modern take on the classics – as in poire William tarte Tatin with caramel sauce & pear-drop ice cream.
